What inspired the creation of Furniture Services Co., and how did you establish a focus on hotel furniture restoration?

Furniture Services Company was founded in 1988 with the goal of providing a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to replacing worn or damaged furniture. Over time, we developed a deep understanding of the hospitality industry’s unique needs—where furniture must not only look pristine but also endure high-traffic use. Hotels quickly became our primary focus because we offer a solution that allows them to maintain the quality and aesthetic of their guest rooms and public spaces without the downtime and expense of full replacements.

Today, with over 35 years of experience, we specialize in restoring case goods, millwork, doors, and upholstery, helping properties extend the life of their furnishings while enhancing the guest experience. In addition to restoration, we offer furniture modifications, such as color changes, the addition of stone or glass tops, re-lamination, and power/USB integrations, helping hotels update their existing FF&E to meet evolving brand standards.

On the sustainability side, restoration significantly reduces landfill waste, conserves raw materials, and minimizes the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing and shipping new furniture. Economically, restoration typically costs 70-80% less than replacement and eliminates the logistical challenges of lead times, installation, and disposal. Hotels can also keep rooms in service without losing revenue since our process allows spaces to be refreshed quickly, with minimal downtime.

Do you use any specialized techniques or eco-friendly materials in the restoration process?

Yes, our restoration process is designed to be both effective and environmentally friendly. We use low-VOC, water-based finishes that dry quickly and emit little to no odor, allowing rooms to be back in service the same day. Our team also employs specialized touch-up and refinishing techniques that blend seamlessly with existing finishes, ensuring a like-new appearance without the need for stripping or heavy sanding. Additionally, we incorporate color-matching technology to ensure consistency across large-scale projects. 

How do you ensure that restored furniture maintains the luxury and durability standards required by high-end hotels?

We approach every project with a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Our technicians are experienced in working with high-end hotel brands, ensuring that finishes, textures, and overall aesthetics meet brand standards.

A key factor in our durability is consistency—we’ve been using the same trusted products and techniques for decades, exclusively in hotel environments, with very positive feedback from our clients. Our refinishing process is designed to not only restore the original beauty of the furniture but also reinforce its resilience against daily wear and tear. We use commercial-grade, water-based finishes that are engineered for high-traffic hospitality settings.

We also back our work with a two-year warranty, which exceeds the industry standard of one year. This warranty is a testament to both our process and the materials we use, giving hoteliers confidence in the longevity of our restoration.
